King Pacific Lodge, A Rosewood Resort is an eco friendly resort in the heart of the Canadian wilderness that offers guests the chance to experience outdoor adventure and to interact with an ancient culture that has stewarded the land for more than 10,000 years.

Corporate Philosophy
Our ecolodge operates on a "triple bottom line" philosophy that goes beyond sustainable tourism, emphasizing a deep respect for the land and its people. Ecotourism vacations in such a rare and special place can only flourish when guests from around the world share this feeling. The bottom line for King Pacific Lodge is that all components must work together harmoniously for any one of them to succeed.

Creation of The Great Bear Rainforest

  • The Great Bear Rainforest is one of the most significant examples of social responsibility in sustainable tourism and ecotourism vacations in the world. In 2006, a coalition of native peoples, the British Columbian government and private enterprise took a visionary stance and placed in protection 21 million acres of the world's largest expanse of intact temperate rainforest to safeguard it for future generations. The creation of the Great Bear Rainforest represents an innovative and unique conservation model. King Pacific Lodge played a pivotal role in the process of protecting this environmentally sensitive area and continues to steward the Great Bear Rainforest in partnership with the local Gitga'at community at Hartley Bay.

Carbon Reduction Initiatives
Energy consumption is an important element of our sustainable tourism philosophy. In March 2007 King Pacific Lodge committed to a carbon footprint reduction (cumulative) of 20% by 2007, 40% by the end of 2009 and 50% by the end of 2012. (Base year is 2003.) Our carbon emissions were established as 492.8 metric tones for the calendar year of 2007.

King Pacific Lodge was also the first eco friendly resort in North America to commit to offsetting not only its own carbon footprint but also that of the air travel of its guests.

To date, the first reduction commitment of 20% has been made through a combination of retrofits and improved efficiencies. We are on track to achieve the 40% reduction by the end of 2009.

Zero Paper Vacation Option
In an effort to redefine ecotourism vacations, King Pacific Lodge introduced the 'zero paper vacation' in 2008. Guests receive a 1% discount on their trip when they receive all information electronically.
